About Concrete Contractors in Raleigh NC
The city of Raleigh in North Carolina happens to be the capital city of the NC, and is the second largest city in this region. It is named after Sir Walter Raleigh who is famous for establishing the lost colony of Roanoke.
The Research Triangle Park is the biggest research park in the US, and is situated no more than 21 miles from the City of Raleigh. It was established during the post WW II epoch, specifically in 1959. At this particular period of time, the state of North Carolina was ranked among the very poorest in the nation. Its fragile agricultural oriented economy very often fluctuated with yearly yields, and jobs were very few for ‘North Carolinians.’ The founders of this research park felt the need for a drastic change to this dismal state of affairs.
They also took time to reflect on how young and talented graduates from local universities opted to look for greener pastures elsewhere in the country. These founders deeply recognized the vast potential for collaboration between business establishments, the government and institutes of higher education to alter the fate of North Carolina. As such, they envisioned creating a place where fledging researchers could join hands and re-invent the future.
Ideally, this would be a great opportunity to provide good jobs to the people of North Carolina. It could also ultimately lead to a heightened accessibility to higher education, and enable the ‘North Carolinians’ to lead meaningful lives. In the long run, the concept they settled for was a non-profit venture, which could then funnel all profits into strengthening the community. The road to the realization of this noble dream was fraught with numerous disappointments. However, the turning point came in the year 1960, when the park landed its first company. This was Chemistrand which invented AstroTurf. A short while later IBM came into the scene with a 600,000 square feet research facility, and the rest, like say, was history.
At the present, the Research Triangle Park houses over 200 different companies. It employs more than 50,000 employees and 10,000 contractors as well. These are skilled professionals with expertise and proficiency in a wide range of high technology fields. This includes micro-electronics, bio-tech, telecommunications, chemicals, environmental sciences and even pharmaceuticals. It is essential to state that over $296 million is invested in the park’s partner institutes of higher learning for research and development on an annual basis. This is twice the amount, which is invested for innovation clusters elsewhere in the country.
